Can anyone identify some peculiar eggs I've found laid in a rose stem?

We have several roses which all have rather a lot of odd eggs laid into the stems. I wonder if it could be some kind of sawfly (rose stem sawfly perhaps?!) as we've also had those tiny black and green caterpillars that stick their tails in the air when you prod them.

The eggs themselves seem to be laid in an ordered pattern of two back to back rows, laid into an open split on the woody stem, and are a dingy yellow.

Anyone know what these are and how to get rid of them without too many nasty chemicals?

its a fairy flie egg which will rot into maggots if not taken care of try to use a toothpick to scratch it out
Reply:there ladybird eggs so leave them alone there good for your garden. the wierd weather is making them adjust.
Reply:I think you spend far to much time looking at your roses, but are you even sure they are harmful, why not just leave them and see what comes out of them! and also they sound like butterfly eggs, but it could be so many different things, leave them alone they have a right to live to.
Reply:ooh we had those crazy caterpillars they were so freaky!

r u sure the eggs arn't buttterfly eggs too?
Reply:spray with washing-up liquid
Reply:the eggs could be from the Old english Spider.have you noticed any white, fat bodied spiders around, if so leave them alone..but there again could be the white butterfly eggs...if it is i would get rid of them, the white butterfly eats all of the plants and is concidered a pest especially to cabbages (cabbage butterfly)
