Reply:i like my roses on the bush ..... i let it bloom till the petals fall off or look bad then i trim the bud off just below the first set of 5 leaves

when watering i only water 10 to 12 inches from the base ... never in the leaves this helps the roots to " look " for water and wont mold or burn the leaves

i use a rose food.... again not on the plant just around the base a few inches from the plant

the soil ph is sort of acidic for roses once a month i add a soil acidifier but you should check your soil first to measure the ph

Reply:What I do, is--when the rose blooms, I either enjoy it on the bush or in the house, but I cut it off and start the 'pruning', before Fall gets here.

I'm not in Phoenix, but I DO know you enjoy them first and you can prune them right off to do that, in a vase!!!

I bought a Hybrid Tea Rose and OMIGOSH! that rose is the best smelling rose I have ever smelled. I think the name of it was "PEACE". It is yellow with a red rim. Awesome!!

I'd water every chance I got,or when you see the leaves droopy.

Can I give my adult female rabbit rose leaves?

She had some earlier and I'm not sure if she's allowed to have that in her diet or if it's toxic to her. Any help?
Can I give my adult female rabbit rose leaves?
There are a lot of garden plants that rabbits can eat and roses are one garden plant that rabbits can eat every part of.
Reply:Yes, rabbits can eat rose leaves providing they don't have pesticides etc on them and aren't brown.

Rose leaves would be a normal part of a wild rabbits diet.
Reply:no it is not toxic ,but rose leaves is not in her diet,
Reply:If I was you I wouldn't give rose leaves to a rabbit
Reply:Rabbits, would tottally eat any type of vegetation, even though it's not in their diet, try not to feed them roses, they are'nt toxic.

Feed them rabbit food or leaves from trees, or even carrots :D

Hope this helps!

  • My rose bushes will not blossom why?

i have used rose fertilizer and plant food on them. they grow nice but no flowers.
My rose bushes will not blossom why?
Check the fertilizer you're using...My guess is that it contains a lot of nitrogen...OK quick fertilizer 101-There a always three numbers on any fertilizer you buy; the first is always nitrogen, the second is always phosphorus, and the third is always potash...Nitrogen, makes a plant grow up, and turn green, phosphorus, promotes strong root growth, and blooming; and potash is an all around tonic...When fertilizing blooming plants I fertilize with a normal fertilizer the first 2-3 times, then I switch to a "bloom booster" these products vary considerably; look for a product where the second number is higher than the first...Also it sounds like you're OVER fertilizing...plant food, and fertilizer, are the same thing...you might want to stop feeding(fertilizing)...
Reply:Are they getting full sun? Don't feed them anymore for 6 weeks or so.

What is the name of the rose plant that is typical (not a bush, but like what you would give to someone)?
Most of the roses used for commercial cut flowers are "Hybrid Teas", which have large flower heads and long, thick stems. Other types are "intermediates", which have a smaller flower but are more productive and "sweethearts", which have very small blooms. There are thousands of different varieties of cut roses. Just in red roses, we carry about 15 different varieties right now. The most popular reds are "Freedom", "Charlotte", "Madame Delbard", "Red Berlin", "Black Magic", "Opium" to name a few.

Most of the roses sold in the US are imported. I work at a flower importer.
    Reply:martha washingtons are great!
Reply:Hybrid Tea, they are a grafted rose. The plant itself is usually not particularly attractive, tends to be kinda leggy. I used to have quite a few, and here in Georgia they were no problem to grow. The main key to them is to prune them, the more you cut them back (to a point) the better they produce. Other than that a little fertiliser, and that was all that was needed. As far as pest, I would occasionally get a few aphids, though they were never a big problem.
Reply:The all grow on bushes. The ones you give are usually hybrid tea roses. It just depends on how they are grown and where.
Reply:They are called long stemmed roses.
Reply:Those long, slender, thornless, velvety, deep red roses are called the "American Beauty" Rose and are the ones typically delivered by florists on Valentines Day and for other celebrations.

The most common place to hide the objects is behind the fingers so the palm of the hand and face of the fingers can be shown empty. The item is gripped between the edges of fingers (like a bowed card) or between two fingers in the crack (like a coin) and when the hand is moving to "reach" for the object, the fingers are bent and/or separated to bring the object into the front grip.

People who are good a slight of hand can use one hand and roll objects from finger to finger, front to back, etc., and exercise constantly like a baton twirler to use small finger movements to carry the task.

The rose is almost certainly not up the sleeve. It might be in the belt at the back, in a loose pocket in the clothing or in the collar. It might move between places before being presented.

dessert rose plant needs full sunlight and a drained soil specifically the sandy loam type.it grows well in a dry cool areas with an average temp. of around 20 to 30 degrees Celsius.more or less.

here are some facts about roses

A rose is a flowering shrub of the genus Rosa, and the flower of this shrub.[1][2] There are more than a hundred species of wild roses, all from the northern hemisphere and mostly from temperate regions. The species form a group of generally prickly shrubs or climbers, and sometimes trailing plants, reaching 2–5 metres tall, occasionally reaching as high as 20 metres by climbing over other plants.[3]

The name originates from Latin rosa, borrowed through Oscan from colonial Greek in southern Italy: rhodon (Aeolic form: wrodon), from Aramaic wurrdā, from Assyrian wurtinnu, from Old Iranian *warda (cf. Armenian vard, Avestan warda, Sogdian ward, Parthian war).[4][5]

Rose hips are sometimes eaten, mainly for their vitamin C content. They are usually pressed and filtered to make rose hip syrup, as the fine hairs surrounding the seeds are unpleasant to eat (resembling itching powder). They can also be used to make herbal tea, jam, jelly and marmalade. A rose that has aged or gone rotten may not be particularly fragrant, but the rose's basic chemistry prevents it from producing a pungent odor of any kind. Notably, when balled and mashed together the fragrance of the rose is enhanced.[6] The fragrance of particularly large balls of mashed roses is enhanced even further. Rose hips are also used to produce an oil used in skin products. Rose shrubs are often used by homeowners and landscape architects for home security purposes. The sharp thorns of many rose species deter unauthorized persons from entering private properties, and may prevent break-ins if planted under windows and near drainpipes. The aesthetic characteristics of rose shrubs, in conjunction with their home security qualities, makes them a considerable alternative to artificial fences and walls.[1][2]Roses are subject to several diseases. The most serious is rose rust (Phragmidium mucronatum), a species of rust fungus, which can defoliate the plant. More common, though less debilitating, are rose black spot, caused by the fungus Diplocarpon rosae, which makes circular black spots on the leaves in summer, and powdery mildew, caused by Sphaerotheca pannosa. Fungal diseases are best solved by a preventative fungicidal spray program rather than by trying to cure an infection after it is visible. After the disease is visible, its spread can be minimized through pruning and use of fungicides although actual infection cannot be reversed. Some rose varieties are considerably less susceptible than others to fungal disease.

The main insect pest affecting roses is the aphid (greenfly), which sucks the sap and weakens the plant. Ladybirds are a predator of aphids and should be encouraged in the rose garden. Spraying with insecticide is often recommended but should be done with care to minimize loss of beneficial insects. Roses are also used as food plants by the larvae of some Lepidoptera (butterfly and moth) species; see list of Lepidoptera that feed on roses.

Hang it upside down and let it dry out. If there is more than one flower, such as baby's breath tie it all together, then hang it upside down. I have a boquet from a wedding I was in 3 years ago and it is still beautiful. I hope this is helpful:)

Here is a site that will give you step by step instructions with pictures included. Follow the direction as they are described and you should have new rose plants in no time. Be aware that you may not end up with the same rose you began with if it is a grafted rose. However, if you are going to propagate an own root rose then you will get the same rose.

How do I kill a rose bush?
    Pull the roots out.

Diesel fuel works, but it will seep into your groundwater. The State EPA can track that and you will have to pay a HEFTY fine.

    Clorox is actually a fertilizer.

Or let me take care of it, it will die before you know it.

Reply:Wait until the bush is sufficiently regrown. Mix glyphosate (RoundUp) with a small amount of liquid rose fertilizer and spray it on all the leaves. The fertilizer will trick the bush into accepting more of the glyphosate into itself. Repeat this procedure for a couple of days. If possible, spray it in the late evening, because the plant will be more active in the morning when there is fresh dew on the leaves.

How to use Rose Water on my skin?

    Hi there,

Can you tell me how to use rose water on my skin?

and one more thing: I heard that i can wash my pets eyes with rose water to prevent tearing. Is that true?
How to use Rose Water on my skin?
This info is from www.bulgarianroseotto.com: Rose water is one of the all-time best and most traditional facial cleansers and has multiple skin-care uses. The natural rose water is used to treat acne and skin irritation. Bulgarian Rose Water is applied for nourishing and hydrating facial and hair masks. Rose water is also added to bathing water and is used for moisturizing the body after bath.

Regarding pets: I believe Rose water can be used to wash your pet's eyes but please check the internet or your local veterinarian doctor for more information.

In polar coordinates dealing with the rose figures, whats the relationship between even & odd numbers?

the rose polar coordinates how come when k is even there are 2k petals but when k is odd its that exact amount of petals? why is that relationship different for odd and even values of k?
In polar coordinates dealing with the rose figures, whats the relationship between even %26amp; odd numbers?
actually what appears to be true is not true.....in the interval [0,2π] both sin (even Θ) and sin (odd Θ) have double the number of leaves. You just don't see the "double" number with the " odd Θ " since the leaves lie on top of each other...try r = sin 3 Θ on [0, π] vs on [π, 2 π] and then sin 2 Θ on each of those. When you compare two graphs you should use the same domains.

Reply:Actually there are supposed to be some quite good roses now. I'm serious. The New York Times food section has had at least two articles recently regarding this -- in other words according to them, rose is a hot trend. I'm serious, go to www.nytimes.com and search the archives for "rose" and "wine" within about the past 6 months. So since some people will regard rose as a fashionable drink they might want to try, you can wait till you have a party, and put the rose bottle on the bar so people - especially those who may have seen wine columns about newly fashionable rose - will have a third option besides just white and red.

Otherwise, you could use it to cook some sort of South of France type dish - rose being a thing from the South of France. I'm thinking some sort of poulet au vin involving, like, rosemary and garlic and maybe some onions and potatoes. Something where you might ordinarily use white wine.

Where can I find a rose in a glass case like the one in Beauty and the Beast?

I want to get this for my girlfriend and my 6 month anniversary so I was wondering where I could find it. Any help would be great.
Where can I find a rose in a glass case like the one in Beauty and the Beast?
I like the idea of making it yourself...%26amp; I'll bet your girlfriend will LOVE the fact that you put so much effort into her gift!

It looks alot harder that you'd think. Once you have the supplies, You can throw it together in 5 easy steps:

    WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

-1 artificial rose in color of your choice

-1 tall %26amp; narrow square clear glass vase. (This will be your "glass case" when turned upside-down, so make sure the rose bud %26amp; leaves fit comfortably inside.)

-1 1" thick pc. of white floral styrofoam, found in same area of store as the rose. Must be LARGER than the vase opening!

    - tube of strong, clear-drying glue...like epoxy or hot glue(need gun)

When you get home %26amp; have all the supplies out:

1.) Take all price stickers off the vase %26amp; rose, most importantly.

2.) Trim rose stem slightly shorter than the hight of your vase.

3.) Using a kitchen knife, trim floral foam to the size of the vase opening...your gonna use this as the base, %26amp; a sort of "plug" to enclose the flower inside. If the foam edges are too jaggedy when your done, you can actually sandpaper them smooth!

4.) Center the stem over the foam, %26amp; just shove it in straight. now that you have the stem's holder made, pull it back out, put a bit of glue in the hole %26amp; stick the stem back in the hole. Your rose will now look "suspended" in the air.

5.) Last, take a bit of the glue %26amp; go around the sides of the foam where it'll "plug" the vase. Place the vase over the rose, %26amp; "plug" it up with the foam...WhaLah!!! Instant Rose in a Glass Case!
    Reply:try my sources ...

or u can just make it yourself. Get a real or fake rose and get a glass case . Put two together and see what you get. =)

  • Can I put my new rose of sharon plants in big pots to grow them and transplant them later this year?

I just received these new plants in the mail. I have rapped the roots in a couple wet paper towels and put them back in the bag that they came in until I can plant them. I need to know if I am going to damage these plants by putting them into big pots with soil with out actually putting them into the ground (yard) untill my fiancee and I can decide where to put them later this summer.
Can I put my new rose of sharon plants in big pots to grow them and transplant them later this year?
Yes, you can plant rose of sharon in big pots and transplant them later this year. It's better to transplant them in Fall when the weather is cool to minimize tranplant shock and the roots don't dry quickly from summer heat.
Reply:That shouldn't be a problem. The plant doesn't know that it is in a pot. Rose ofSharon are very forgiving and easy to grow.

I have so many White Rose of Sharon bushes, I keep cutting them down! They grow to 8, 10 feet tall. But, I love them.
Reply:Go ahead and put them in pots. Althea ( Rose of Sharon) are very easy to grow. It is a very good idea to pot them up as you are going to have to decide a good place for them. It will give you more time to learn about them as well. They do not get too large but you still need to know their mature size to place them well. Try the library for information. Or try ebay since many sellers there supply information as they are usually in the nursery business.

Since they are bareroot a gallon size pot should be sufficient. They will have time to grow more roots and will be easier to plant if the pot is not too big. The hole you dig should be about two and half times larger than the pot, and just a little deeper.

Oh, yes, check out the area you live in to see what they look like this summer in other people's yards.

    H
Reply:there is a trick to transplanting - it's kind of "folklore", but it seems to hold true: you can only transplant during months with an "r" in them or, DON"T transplant in May, June, July, or August. summer transplants ususally don't survive. Rose of Sharon is a pretty hardy plant, so putting them in pots until fall will work just fine. or you could just plant them outside now, then move them in the fall (after they have lost their leaves), but this increases the chance of injury during transplanting. I hope this helps. good luck

What is this on my rose bushes?

I don't know what kind of roses they are, but there are only 2 layers of petals. They have been unbelievably healthy until last week. I noticed there were white stuff on the leaves and then they would turn yellow and brown then die and fall off. The top of the bushes are great, the new growth has just turned green but the bottoms are bare. I've picked up as much of the leaves as I could (mulch is around them) and started spraying them with a fungicide. No more white but the leaves are still turning brown and yellow and dieing. Am I doing the right things? Is there anything else I should do? If it helps at all I live in Florida. The sprinklers are set for 7am only every other day. Also some of the buds are really small and then die fast, right after blooming.
What is this on my rose bushes?
The white stuff is powdery white mildew. This is going to be a constant battle once it set in. But, it can be controlled.

When you water, do not get the foliage wet. That promotes the fungus growth. A good product for fungus and mildew is neem oil. Ask for it in a specialty nursery (they may not have it at Home Depot).

Also, when you use the stuff, make sure you get both sides of the leaves (front and back). You can't readily see the fungus on the back, but you'll see it as dead leaves on the front.

Also, remove/replace all of the dead leaves and mulch around your plants. Throw it in the garbage or burn it. Once you get mold and mildew spores, they can blow up from the leaves/mulch and end up right back on the leaves.

As far as the blooms, are you pruning the plant after the bloom? If you just let the plant go, it will get really bushy and give small flowers. If you prune correctly, you will get less but bigger blooms. To prune correctly, cut the stem with the dead rose just above a leaf stem with at least 5 leaflets on it. The bud that forms at the base of the leaf stem will form the stem for the next rose and it should be bigger than if you just let the plant do its own thing.
Reply:Yep they are all right, I just wanted to add that if you do spray with Neem make sure you spray in the evening because it is an oil so the hot sun on it may burn the plant.
Reply:Paul gave you all the right answers! All, Paul's answer es included cleaning up Powdery Mildew! gggggggggggggoooooooooo! for this answer
Reply:First of all, you shouldn't be watering your roses with a sprinkler. You should be using soaker hoses. Even in the morning, getting the foliage wet in Florida invites fungal diseases. Pick the dead leaves off the bushes %26amp; destroy them as well as any leaves that have fallen to the ground. Continue spraying with a fungicide. A systemic one like BannerMax will work the best (although it isn't cheap)

Should I cut my climbing rose back before summer?

I started it from a cutting of my Mother's plant. It is 2 years old and has 2 long branches. I don't know what kind it is because it comes from my Grandmothers plant which is about 40 years old. It has a deep red bloom and the most wonderful frangrance to it. Also does anyone know when it might bloom? Sorry I don't have more info about it.
Should I cut my climbing rose back before summer?
You can cut back climbing roses but keep in mind, they have to have 2 years growth on them before they will bloom.

If you cut it back which can be done almost anytime, do not cut it shorter than 1 foot tall. Like I said it will grow and bloom again, just not for a couple years.
Reply:I don't think you cut back climbing roses. You can shorten it if you think some of the canes are too long. Otherwise, cut out any dead parts and let it go. If you are in the USA, most roses that are dormant because of winter will bloom right around Memorial Day. Throw a couple of hands full of Epsom Salt around the base around St. Patrick's Day, then a couple of weeks later, fertilize it with a good quality rose food, and feed it every month through August. Make sure you spray it with Orthenex so it doesn't get black spot and insect damage. You can buy Orthenex is a premixed spray can.

How do I press a rose in a book?

I received a dozen roses from my boyfriend and I would like to press some of them in a book. What is the best way to do this without them molding? Should i press them between wax paper? They are just starting to wilt now. I do not have a flower press.
How do I press a rose in a book?
In my case, it's easy as 1-2-3! Pick the best petals, insert in every page of a book, keep book in a dry place and let stay for months, years... The longer they stay, the better they become. As years go by, they could be reminders of fond memories that go with each petal.

    Happy pressing :) Cheers!
Reply:Every time I try to press a flower, it always molds. I usually just lay the flower up on a shelf or something out of reach and forget about it for a couple of weeks. Then it is a beatifully dried flower that still has it's shape--works well to lay on a shelf in a china closet or to put in a vase. This is what I did with our wedding flowers and they still look beautiful almost 6 years later.
Reply:Put the rose between two pieces of white paper...I just used printer paper. Then put the rose and paper in the middle of a thick phone book. Add a couple more phone books on top of that one and leave it for a couple of months and your rose will be pressed and ready to frame etc. I just left mine under the bed..it worked fine.

How do you prune a rose bush? And what is the best time of year to do it?

You can prune rose bushes now, or in the spring. Make sure you cut each branch on approx. 45 degree angle, just above the bud pointing in the direction you want to encourage the new growth in the spring, for example away from the walkway, or a wall, but make sure the new branches will grow outward, not toward the centre of the bush. Keeping the bush centre open allows more sunlight in and discourages pests and mould. Please remember to protect the graft area of the bush in cold climate. Enjoy many beautiful roses next year.
How do you prune a rose bush? And what is the best time of year to do it?
Cut as close to the root as you can.
Reply:I prune mine in the early spring when I see the new growth start. Always make pruning cuts at an angle.
Reply:I prefer to prune in the Spring so my plants won't be naked to face the hardships of winter......

Always prune the branches at an angle so the water don't stagnate, bringing rot and attracting bugs to your plant. Cut as many branches inside the plant as you can....to allow sunshine to the rest of the plant. While pruning, try to give it the shape you want it to be.

And don't forget to fertilize and mulch......
Reply:Never prune right before winter. It is too risky, and the new branches can freeze. Wait until spring when it warms up a bit, and then take some sharp shears or a rose knife, and make cuts about 1/4" beyond a stem with a five-leaf tip; cutting at an angle. Cut out, too, any tangled branches in the middle of the bush. Sunlight must be able to reach the rose, and it cuts down on mould and fungus diseases as well. Finally, dispose of any diseased leaves or dead branches and put them in the trash, not the compost pile if you have one. For blackspot and mould, cut most of the leaves off and feed with a systemic rose food, such as Ortho's. Burn the leaves, or at the very least, put them in a plastic grabage bag and seal it to throw it away.
Reply:roses can take cuts anywhere, but is best to cut halfway on each stem. Valentines day is the old saying, but anytime from December to march.

What's the botanical name of the fern that is used in rose bouquet?

It has deep green foliage and very pretty.

I'm trying to plant it in my garden for my cutting flowers.
What's the botanical name of the fern that is used in rose bouquet?
Are you talking about "Leather leaf" fern? This is the most commonly used fern in the floral industry. Botanical name is Rumohra adiantiformis. I have only seen it as a cut product for florists and not sure you can get it as a plant for the garden. There are many ferns out there that would work for arrangements though.

How can i dry a rose to save it forever without losing its color?

How can i dry a rose to save it forever without losing its color?
I've never done this at home before, but at work I've done it for other people. You can cover the rose in wax. Go to Hobby Lobby or the local craft store and buy plain clear wax, and heat proof container deep enough that the rose will fit inside. Heat the wax until it is liquid, then slowly and carefully holding the rose upside down dip it into the wax and pull it back out in one swift motion. The wax is hot, but shouldn't damage your hand. Wipe the drippings off with your fingers and do again for a gran total of 3 times! You should still be able to see the natural color through the wax. You may need to remove all the leaf's before, if they get broken later it can cause issues.

    Good Luck,

Sorry to hear about your Grandma.

I forgot to prune my rose bush this year, will it still bloom good?
You could probably prune it now, if it is still dormant. Or, don't prune at all - I generally only prune my roses in the spring, when I can tell where the dead/old stuff is, and then I only cut off the frost-kill parts. I fertilize with a time-release, systemic fertilizer. I always get good blooms this way.....

I will ruthlessly cut off everything that is smaller in diameter than a pencil, plus any damaged or dead areas.

Roses should be cut right back at the end of winter, after the last frosts.

If you live in a more moderate climate, the timing might be different.

They are a remarkable resiliant plant and should recover with some TLC. Rose food etc.

If you are in the UK legally you cant. If you take any of the above advice you are more nuts than they are. Get an approved electrician. (NICEIC uk)
Reply:It all depend on how many wires are up there. If there are only two or three, you will have no problem.

The ceiling rose comes in two pieces the first is the baseplate and this has brass blocks attached to it. These blocks are marked L, N, and E. Each block has 3 grub screws in it. Make a hole in the base plate by striking out one of the plastic panels. Feed the 3 cables through it and secure the baseplate to the wooden ceiling joist.

fasten the Red or Brown wire to the outermost hole on the L block using the grub screw. Likewise for the Black or blue (N eutral) and the Green (E arth)

Take the bulb holder part and wire it to the base plate in the same manner as above, using a different hole in each block. Red to L Black/Blue to N and green to E, using the grub screws.

Then close the whole unit by screwing the two pieces together. Put in your bulb and switch on. Easy.

If you have more than three wires, consult an electrician, or if you are not confident to do it yourself. It won't cost much.
Reply:If there is wiring there and a wall switch connected to them, then there should be an electrical junction box (either metal or plastic) which has two threaded holes. These are size 8x32 (if you are in the USA). A new fixture has a bracket which is slotted and will fit a 3" box (old style) or 4" size. These fixtures come with the brackets (but not the screws) 3/4 inch in length. Again size 8 x 32 (thread size). These "straps" as they are called , will support the fixture that they come with.

Good Luck and work safe ! ! !

Replacing strings on a floyd rose bridge on guitar?
    It's been done nicely already:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floyd_Rose#...
Reply:A ZR? That bridge can do wonders. However, this is probably the most complicated bridge to replace your strings. I have a ZR on my S320.Before you do all of this, do a dive bomb (without playing the string) on the bridge, HOLD IT WHEN YOU GET DOWN!, and put a AAA battery under the bridge. This will keep it level while changing strings. Before inserting new strings, oil the fretboard if you have any lemon oil. Don't oil a maple fretboard though. The nut and saddles should still be unclamped. Now, remove the first string you will be putting on from the package. Snip the ball end of the string off using your string cutters. Now insert one end of the string into the corresponding saddle. Screw in the saddle until it is fully clamped on the string. Now, insert the string into the locking nut and pull through. Wrap the string around the tuning post as you normally would and tighten until it's in the area of being somewhat in tune (don't bother tuning precisely yet). Repeat this process with every string. After all the strings are on and in the range of tuning, remove the AAA battery you placed under the bridge earlier. Now tune up the strings one at a time. Because of the Zero Point system, tuning of one string won't change as drastically as it would on a normal Floyd Rose. You still will have to tune several times until the strings are balanced with one another. After you are in tune (the nut should not be clamped yet) take a look at the bridge. Is it level with the body of the guitar? If not, then take your allen key to the back of the guitar. See the little silver thing? Screw that in to increase tension on the bridge and to bring it into the body, or unscrew it to relieve tension and make the bridge come out of the body more (how convenient). You'll want the bridge to be as level as possible, so tune after each time you make the bridge level (String tension affects the bridge's leveling out).

After the bridge is level and your guitar is in tune again, screw the clamps on the nut until they are locked down. Now, adjust the tuning with the fine tuners. You will have to retune several times using the fine tuners for the strings to be balanced and in tune. If you find that the find tuners cannot screw in or unscrew any more, unclamp the nut and screw the fine tuner up or down until it has sufficient room to move. Then, retune with normal tuners, reclamp the nut, and adjust the tuning with the fine tuners. Hopes this helps, This method is probably the fastest you're gonna find it.

How can I remove rose petal (natural/fresh/red) stains from a white bath?

The bath water drained away overnight and the petals sat in contact. A browny/blue stain has been left behind.
How can I remove rose petal (natural/fresh/red) stains from a white bath?
    Try the magic eraser.
    Reply:if the bleach doesn't work....try peroxide

    Ne Blessed!
Reply:Bleach that stays on the stain longer would help like in the product Tilex. A few applications will be necessary. If this is not feasible make a paste of Comet cleanser with bleach and apply, let dry and scrub away. 2-3 applications may be needed.Since the stains are organic, they will be easy to remove. Beware of the Magic Eraser, the product is just a dense piece of foam and falls apart very easily. Good luck and have a shinier tub.
Reply:Use chlorine bleach and water, about half and half and make sure that the water can't 'drain away' (you may need to put some plastic over the 'plug' to make sure) while the bleach has time to work. Do it in the early morning, and check it several times during the day. The 'stain' is from 'rot' of the petals and it may actually take a few 'days' of soaking your tub to get it 'white' again.

How much dander do rose breasted cockatoos produce?
All breeds of Cockatoos and African Greys are two of the birds that have the most dander. I too have allergies to a lot of different animals, but birds don't bother me at all. I have an Umbrella Cockatoo, an African Grey and two macaws. I don't do any sneezing, but I have to dust a lot....

Can you grow a rose bush from a cut stem?

My friend trimmed my rosebush and told me to stick the cut stems in fertilized soil right away and possibly a new bush will develop. Is this true? I did it, but I question this method. How long will it usually takes to root itself? Will it even root? I put the stems in the soil 3 weeks ago, but have no idea what to expect. Should I leave them there?
Can you grow a rose bush from a cut stem?
often times roses will root this way. it works best if all be the top leaves are removed and there are joints...or areas where the leaves were joined to the plant..below the soil surface. keep them moist (a piece of plastic wrap over the top to make a sorta mini greenhouse helps) it may take several weeks...so be patient.

the best and most reliable method of rooting roses is to take a long stem and bend it over till it will lay on the surface of the ground, scrap the bottom (where it is gonna touch the soil) and place a brick or heavy rock on top. This will keep it in contact with the soil. in a few weeks it will be rooted and you can clip it off the mother plant to place it where ever you desire.

    hope this helps. :)
Reply:Yes, it works. There's a technique used by plant propagators and if you are really interested I will give you the exact directions --but if the stems aren't dried up and brown YET they are probably trying to root right now.

It takes about 6 weeks usually --before they develop enough of a root system to grow a new plant. However you should leave them alone as long as you can stand it before transplanting them; they'll be stronger and more likely to survive. If you'd like you can begin watering them with a weak solution of Miracle Grow; that would give them a boost since it would furnish nutrients needed to form the roots. Water lightly once a week with the solution.

You are doing everything right. Just dont fuss over them.
Reply:I don't believe this will work. I have been gardening for over 50 years and have never heard or read that this was possible.
Reply:Yes, I have done this but only in the fall. I cut a stem from a rose just below a bud line. Dip the tip in rooting powder and put it in the ground. Cover with a glass canning jar and leave it alone for the winter. There will be new growth in the spring when you remove the jar.

You could try the same thing now, without the jar, and see if it works. Make sure it gets plenty of sun and water and a little fertilizer.
Reply:Yes, you can. I've never tried it, but I plan on giving it a go soon. I've seen it done and I know that you have to cut the stem below a node and dip it in rooting hormone and keep the soil moist.

Rose of Sharon blooms on new wood, so prune the plants in the winter while they are dormant. They will put on new growth in the spring and buds will develop on that new growth.

More then likely not.. They are more methodical eaters and will roll it up in a food bolus when they're done with it. You will want to spot clean it right after otherwise it will smell awful in a day or two.

What is a good sweet, rose' wine that won't put a huge dent in my wallet?
My favorite Rose is Vin Gris de Cigare from Bonny Doon. It is a relatively inexpensive ($10-14) Rose which is full of fruit and floral scent, not overly sweet and fairly complex for a rose wine. It is made by a wine genius from California, and it is, by far, one of the very few rose I would even bother to drink, not mentioning keep around in my cellar. Besides, the label is heck of fun to read.

Once you like Rose, think of Etude Rose, which is about $25 and more complex, but also more expensive.

    Good luck.

Reply:2 Buck Chuck is made by the Bronco Wine Company (Franzia) and its nothing but Franzia in a glass bottle. They just open up valve 143 ( I think) to fill up that bottling line.

Did you know the genius at Trader Joe's whom came up with Charles Shaw (2 Buck Chuck) was fired?

Yep. He dumbed down the whole Trader Joe's concept and now their stuck with a contact for a lake more of that garbage. Its not better than anything unless you think Franzia box wine is better than anything else. Why do you think they're selling it in other markets now? They're drowning in Two Buck Chuck and the so called blind tastings are bogus. They are a marketing ploy to move the juice.

For a REAL rose wine that's semisweet try:

    Wattle Creek Rose

Vinum Cellars Rose (although not that sweet it seems so)
Reply:I would go with Oliver soft rosé wine. It costs around $8.00 for a 750mL. And it is also very delicious!

  • How to dry a rose bouquet?

I have a beautiful bouquet of long stem red roses that my husband gave me for Valentines Day. So far I've kept them fresh by putting them in the fridge every night and they still look brand new. Now I want to dry them though and use them as decoration in my living room.

I know that usually you are supposed to hang them upside down in a dry, dark place to dry them, but we live in a very humid area (right now the thermometer says the humidity is at 56%).

Would hanging them upside down in a dark place still work or is there some other trick I need to know?

Oh, and FYI, I live in North Africa and we do not have arts and crafts stores here. Any tricks would have to be something simple that I can do at home without having to buy anything special.
How to dry a rose bouquet?
I have successfully dried roses with humidity at about that level. Just give it a try, and find the driest, dark place such as a closet. A gentle fan might help keep the humidity down, but don't point it at the flowers too much.
Reply:I found this answer in the first link. It also shows you how to make potpourri out of them (I'd rather have the flowers, not the potpourri). The other link teaches you how to use other methods (like microwave and silica gel). I dont recommend that since silica gel is not readily available in stores (have to go to a craft/fabric store). Hope this helps!!

For best results, we recommend that you arrange the roses in a vase with water and floral preservative, as you would with a regular arrangement. Let the roses open up until they are approximately halfway open. if you do not let them open at all, you end up with very small buds (if this is what you are looking for, proceed with the following instructions). After you have allowed the roses to partially open, remove them from the vase, tie a string around the bottom of the stems and hang the bunch upside down in a dry place. It will, depending on the humidity, take about two weeks for the roses to completely dehydrate. You will know when they are dry enough by gently squeezing the buds. If they are still soft then they are not yet dry. When the buds are quite firm, you may untie them and arrange as desired. It is possible to spray the buds with a 'hardener' (available at many craft stores), or hairspray, after they have dried. Doing this will help preserve the flowers and prevent crumbling.

What is eating my rose leaves and leaving little black balls?

I can't see a bug, only little black balls on some of the leaves. The pest is eating the leaves completely off, leaving only the stem and main "veins" of the leaf. The plant seems healthy and is blooming, but it just hardly has any leaves. It is surely being eaten, as opposed to mold or rot or something, because I can see the holes and the edges look just like some little teeth ate them.
What is eating my rose leaves and leaving little black balls?
Snail poop! Slug Poop! You can not see them because they eat mostly at nightfall and are very good at hiding.Snails do not have teeth but they eat as though they do.Turn rocks, or borders over that are near by and I bet you will find the culprits! The slugs are little harder to spot, usually dark wet%26amp; looking They stay out of the heat in the day in darker cooler places.

You can sprinkle some snail bait around you plants and it will take care of the problem.

Can you bring a rose back to life once it is dried up?

If so, how. I tried cutting off the bottom of the stem. Didn't seem to work. Answers are appreciated.
Can you bring a rose back to life once it is dried up?
No. If you are really desperate you can try soaking the whole thing in water (laying on its side and weighted) to rehydrate, but they reach a point and they are gone. All roses either dry out or drop petals eventually.

You could preserve it as is -- borax in the laundry soap aisle is used for drying/preserving flowers -- or make beads of the petals. The link for the following recipe calls for 4 cups, so you would have to get other rose petals.

You could also wear a pressed petal in a locket. (I'm assuming you are trying to keep this rose longer out of affection for the giver.)

Reply:How hard they are to grow will depend on where you come from. I'm from New Zealand in a temperate climate and I haven't had any problems, but if you're in an area which gets snow you may have to shelter them over winter.

As to roses which bloom over a longer period, look for the word 'remontant', it basically means repeat flowering.

You might want to try some of the 'English' roses aka 'David Austin' roses. His have been bred to look old fashioned but bloom over a longer period. Some are hardier than others.

I also like the 'flower carpet' roses. They're grown especially to form a ground cover rather than a bush and they flower most of the year around. I have red, pale yellow and white. They also come in a shocking pink (not nice!) and a pale salmonish pink colour.

Also, my favourite rose of all is 'Iceberg'. It's considered to be quite 'common' these days, but who cares. It was my first ever rose and what got me started. It blooms for months on end and because of its white colour it won't clash with anything in your garden.

Hope this'll get you started. Try 'googling' or 'yahooing' either remontant roses or repeat flowering roses. You'll find heaps.

Also any good garden centre worth its salt will help.

And... try your local library. Check out their rose books to see what appeals to your taste in roses.

    Cheers

    Anna.
Reply:An excellent, easy care, very disease resistant rose variety is "Knock Out". This is a variety that is intended to be low-care, yet very attractive and it is a very constant bloomer. The flowers are a dark pink color.

It is important to note that "Knock Out" roses are not like the roses you get at the Florist. They have less petals, although they are still very pretty, and much easier to take care of than florist-type roses.

There are a couple other "Knock Out" roses in different colors -- "Blushing Pink Knock Out", "Pink Knock Out", and "Double Knock Out", which has more petals than the original.

Having said this, winter-hardiness can be a problem in extremely cold areas such as the state of Maine or Vermont, the upper midwest, and areas in Canada such as Alberta or Manitoba. If you are in an extremely cold climate, you may be better off with a Rugosa rose such as "Hansa". In addition, in extremely cold climates, once-blooming roses like the Gallicas and Albas may also be a good choice. Although they bloom only once without repeat, the "show" is often spectacular, and Gallicas are often extremely fragrant.

An excellent place to get more information on growing roses in your particular area is the rose forum at gardenweb.com. You can get very detailed information on every rose you can think of at that site.
Reply:None bloom all summer really. They all bloom in spring, some are repeat bloomers during the summer. You would get one big bunch of roses and then spurts now %26amp; then... They really are a pain in the behind to take care of, you can only water them from the roots down, you have to spray for mildew, bugs, etc. You have to mulch and protect them in winter. You have to feed them, trim them, all sorts of things. I USED to have tons of roses all around my property. Used to...:%26gt;)

  • "Just as the rose is red is nature beautiful!" What do you think?

I am looking to find arguments for and against realism with respect to beauty. Is beauty a universal, is it absolute, or is it just in the eye of the beholder? Serious answers only, please.
"Just as the rose is red is nature beautiful!" What do you think?
Beauty is subjective;it is culturally and experienced based and it can change depending on your mood so its not a static thing, what you think is beautiful today you may not always believe to be beautiful.

Reply:As there is considerable precision in Nature at the atomic and subatomic levels, and in the cosmological constants, organic sensibility, including psi at quantum levels ("Psychoenergetic Science," Dr. William A. Tiller, http://www.tiller.org http://www.quantumbrain.org http://www.divinecosmos.com http://www.heartmath.org http://www.noetic.org and "Extraordinary Knowing," Dr. Elizabeth Mayer) "naturally" finds resonance and attunement to same, "symmetric" and "harmonious" hence "beautiful."

If God Is, this "beauty" moves transuniversally unto "Beauty," "Love divine," "Truth," and the like. The assertorial evidence for this is post-newtonian/kantian classical 5-sense material data, and involves quantum mechanics, eeg, etc. The absolute Qualia are found evidentially in this progression: eeg studies of Tibetan Buddhist "insight meditators," who rapidly and reliably enter high gamma wave states during (their) protocol, a state-specificity associated with maslowian "peak creativity and mentative insight." Ordinary beta-wave state scientists and philosophers have no direct Platonic under-standing ("hypo-thesis") of these (save during periods of "inspiration and insight"), so their beta wave state-specific "understanding" is superficial at best, mere "marking and tracing." If this sounds like the classic newtonian/kantian spirituality/philosophy divide, it is now superceded by the eeg evidence indicating a Kant in his outer beta activity simply errs when trying e.g. to deny Emmanuel Swedenborg's factual clear-seeing of a distant contemporaneous event. (Kant's denial relates to his empty Noumenon notion, which is an overly-beta wave attempt to control real perceptions by denying those which are non-beta state.)

The next step is in general typified by the Tibetan example: while beta-wave scientists and/or scientism is busy tracing eegs, the monks are experiencing lucid new information from living Helper Beings, "Dakini." Here is Swedenborg-level psi or soulfield coherency and resonance with "higher octaves" of energy.

To mark and confirm such is the uncomfortable position which science finds itself, in such observations. Hence, the general field is unpopular, per Kant's observation that most scientists would not be interested in investigating a Swedenborg. It is more than ironic that similar outlier data, e.g. perturbations in Mercury's orbit, were dismissed by newtonian 19th century physics, and taken up by Einstein to point to general and special relativity.

So, too, when a Host of Light is predicted at Garabandal, Spain, in the early 1960s, by a peasant child who is even disappointed by the "small" miracle, then appears in thin air, filmed by many sceptics, science is not interested in this one-time, non-duplicatable phenomenon, albeit it falsifies materialist laws of physics.

The increase of scientific data (e.g., Dr. Tiller's meditators reliably and significantly induce quantum effects otherwise obtainable only with high-tech physics apparatus) has reached a trans-ignorance/trans-scepticism level, such that philosophy must take note of same, and incorporate same, else fail in the Wittgensteinian-Kantian program to continue understanding world per science data.

The next step is the marking and tracing of the Swedenborgian far-seeing in laboratory controlled and replicable conditions, so far as possible. The issue or stasis is now "certitude" in Wittgenstein's and others' sense: e.g., is the telepathic and Light-symbol information of the Tibetan "Dakini" Helper Beings a) novel, indicating beyond-"creative" Source; and b) is there an alternative, e.g. "morphic field" explanation plausibly retaining only a physicalist, albeit with finer energy information fields, explanation.

This question has already become germane; e.g. "Penetration," Ingo Swann, and "Entangled Minds," Dr. Dean Radin, describe statistical work which demonstrates novel information a la "Helper Beings" is being obtained, e.g. by "remote viewing," "out-of-body" experience, etc. The Monroe Institute has recorded with very unique detail, two simultaneous trained oob individuals' simultaneous encounters with other loci and even beings there, which correlate well beyond chance.

"Entering the Circle," psychiatrist Olga Kharitidi's account of her participation in developing an oob-inducing apparatus at a major physics institute in the 1980s, is also telling in this regard. (Both the Monroe Institute and her work end public disclosure in the 1980s, with the MI being involved with U.S. military and intel programs. Background: there was a disinformation salient during the Carter years regarding the statistical validity of these programs, and they were officially discontinued, or, as been surmised, taken off the public budget. Participants in the evaluation team, as well as Dr. Mayer, have analyzed the data, and determined that indeed the programs were successful, well beyond chance.)

At this juncture, the psi quantum interface, e.g. of Dr. Tiller's SU(2) quantum model of biofield energetics and of Dr. Robert Jahn/Dr. Mayer's similar, less-detailed model, is under refinement per further experimentation per various research teams. That novel and reliable data and effects are obtained, is also established. The question is now, is the "Source" merely a physicalist Sheldrake morphic field, a Ernst Laszlo's "Quantum Shift/akashic field," or related to the mainstream biophysicists (Dr. Chang in PRC, Dr. Popp in Germany) work listed in Lynne McTaggart's "The Field" (%26lt;%26gt;),http://www.lifescientists.de/ib0203e_1.h... or is there "more" qua "helper beings," "angels," "God"?

For those rare individuals who have demonstrated abilities beyond the "mere physical field" and who have stated their encounters with such "lifeforms," herewith a list of some of the more reliable/credible:

    "The Masters and Their Retreats," Mark Prophet (who also has a heuristic look at transhumanism in "The Soulless One");

Ann Ree Colton, "Men in White Apparel," "Watch Your Dreams," and "Kundalini West" (she, a modest seer, was on occasion giving a public lecture, and spontaneously levitated several feet over a railing and into the front rows of the audience; such events are no better than a group of scientists observing Jesus walking on the water, and deciding such is uninformative, as unreplicable in the laboratory).

"Light Is a Living Spirit," "Hope for the World: Spiritual Galvanoplasty," "Man's Subtle Bodies and Centres," "Creation: Artistic and Spiritual," and "Looking into the Invisible," Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov, whose life story is given in Louise-Marie Frenette's "The Beautiful Story of a Master. These books are even less demanding than the undergraduate generalist level to which Mark Prophet ("Climb the Highest Mountain" is another seminal source) wrote, as Aivanhov lectured to student/the interested public, and his books are collections of his oral teachings. Profound insights are given in these books, albeit one must have resonance or "ears to hear" aka "read between the lines."

"Life before Life," Jim Tucker, M.D., and "Babies Remember Birth," David Chamberlain, Ph.D., may be of some interest as general background, likewise, "The Reincarnation of Edgar Cayce?", Free and Wilcock.

In fine, the post-kantian era, beginning around Whitehead, Husserl, and Bergson, and dealing with quantum level evidence in human spirit/potential, and with more subtle protocols such as in insight meditation, finds some resonance in the Kyoto School, e.g. Tanabe's "Philosophy as Metanoetics," but the 1990s and beyond have seen a further torrent of reliable investigation into "psychoenergetic science," and reductionist "neurophilosophers" are being left behind in their beta wave state atomism and "trees."

Reply:I believe true beauty is on the inside as what is on the outside can be made ugly by what proceeds out of the persons heart. Some cultures find older women hot and others find beauty in youth. But true beauty is not on the face but in the heart.
Reply:I believe that beauty is only in the eye of the beholder.

One's idea of beauty can (and does) change. I have met many people whom i initially believed to be beautiful, but turned out they were ugly.

(and no, i'm not talking about beer goggles, folks!)
Reply:Beauty is completely subjective. It doesn't exist except in the human approval of one thing over another.
Reply:As far as nature...it is beautiful, cruel, funny, sad and wise...it just "is".

In terms of beauty, it is in the eye of the beholder with one caveat. If one understands nature, one can make a distinction in terms of beauty. If one doesn't, then many of natures faces might seem ugly. Growing up in the country and learning the different faces and sides of nature that were available to me, I think it is beautiful. It exists on a level and in a rhythm of it's own. There are cycles, seasons, and ebb and flow. Sometimes nature seems harsh with natural disasters on a large scale, or just cruel on a small scale. It is in the checks and balances that the overall picture comes into sight.

And, sometimes nature is "over the top". Hurricane Katrina, tornadoes in the Midwest, destructive earthquakes,(and I have been an observer of these!)occur and losses are counted, in lives and financially. However, it IS nature. She has no conscience, she does what she does because of who she is...why would we expect differently?
