I just planted these rose bushes that are full of blooms i know it says to cut back to 5th leaf but that would

that would be cutting back like 12 inches on some of the roses is that normal? or should i just let that bloom die on the bush? it is a gold medal rose bush most of the blooms are on long stems like more that 12 inches until the first 3 leaf sprout. thanks for the help..also.. i am not cutting to have a bouquet i am talking about dead heading the roses.

Nah dont cut that far. I've tended to my moms rose bushes every year. Just cut half an inch under the dead rose and they come back faster.
Reply:Don't dead head until the blooms are spent. Meaning, they are no longer vibrant in color and the petals get a bit "droopy."
Reply:yeah cut back to wherever it says. growth hormones on plants are usually found at the tips, so they tend to grow tall. therefore, by cutting off the tips, the growth hormones are taken away so they grow evenly in all directions, so you get a nicer shaped rose bush.
