What is the name of the rose plant that is typical (not a bush, but like what you would give to someone)?
Most of the roses used for commercial cut flowers are "Hybrid Teas", which have large flower heads and long, thick stems. Other types are "intermediates", which have a smaller flower but are more productive and "sweethearts", which have very small blooms. There are thousands of different varieties of cut roses. Just in red roses, we carry about 15 different varieties right now. The most popular reds are "Freedom", "Charlotte", "Madame Delbard", "Red Berlin", "Black Magic", "Opium" to name a few.

Most of the roses sold in the US are imported. I work at a flower importer.
Reply:martha washingtons are great!
Reply:Hybrid Tea, they are a grafted rose. The plant itself is usually not particularly attractive, tends to be kinda leggy. I used to have quite a few, and here in Georgia they were no problem to grow. The main key to them is to prune them, the more you cut them back (to a point) the better they produce. Other than that a little fertiliser, and that was all that was needed. As far as pest, I would occasionally get a few aphids, though they were never a big problem.
Reply:The all grow on bushes. The ones you give are usually hybrid tea roses. It just depends on how they are grown and where.
Reply:They are called long stemmed roses.
Reply:Those long, slender, thornless, velvety, deep red roses are called the "American Beauty" Rose and are the ones typically delivered by florists on Valentines Day and for other celebrations.

Growing them is not as easy as it looks. Its fussy, finicky requirements made this a good Rose for a greenhouse. Growing these long stemmed Roses at home without a greenhouse is extremely difficult.

If you have a greenhouse and want to purchase some to grow in it, try this site. http://uncommonrose.biz/r/americanbeauty...
Reply:Long Stemmed. Same type of roses - off a bush. Just a bush with long stems...
Reply:They are called American Beauty... the name of that movie was about the roses the wife grew and the guy was always imagining about
