When can I transplant my climbing rose bush?

We will be expanding our deck within the next year. I need to move my rose bush further down my house since it will be in the way. What is the best time of year to do this AND should I cut the height down some to move it properly. It is almost 8'. It also just just hit with the freeze TN just had so has lost some of the leaves %26amp; the new buds have died.
When can I transplant my climbing rose bush?
The best time to transplant is when the plant is dormant for your area. November to January if you don't get snow. If you get snow, then you should transplant at the same time that nurseries in your area are selling bare root roses for sale. This way you will put less stress on your rose bush.

If you transplant it now, it will be trying to put out new leaves and buds at the same time that it is dealing with the shock of transplant.

Good Luck!!
Reply:Pruning it back to a manageable size is a good idea, but wait a week before transplanting to much at once will shock the poor thing to death. As long as there is no danger of temps in the low 30's for a few weeks following transplanting now would be best. Remember to go wide and get ALL the roots and the dirt it is growing in (hopefully in one lump so it's not too traumatized ). Have the new hole pre-dug so you can drop it in as fast as possible. Water well then every other day for the next two weeks then add quarter of the amount rose food.

Trust me, I did 12 roses this way and they are still alive and kicking my backside to day.
Reply:I would not move it in the middle of summer. Either do it right now or wait until early fall. Yes, I would definetely prune it back before moving.
Reply:Now is good, but i dont think it would bloom as it has been, because of the transplant. but it will eventually bloom and be pretty again.
