i live in northern utah and it gets about 6 hours of direct sunlite a day.
there is a hanging basket of geraniums above it that drips on it when i water them. could this be the problem?
Why is my rose tree dying?
I don't know about the dripping geranium... but I can tell you that Roses can be very susceptible to disease. Have you checked for fungus. Black spot, powdery mildew etc are problems....
If leaves are yellowing, try giving some acid fertilizer. You may be watering too much.....try backing off a little.. we are in a drought in Virginia... [very little rain where I am] and I water no more than every other day.....
Finally, could you have a parasite..... there are these nasty little flies that like to burrow down into the rose cane and lay eggs. Then larvae grow and kill the canes.... to check for this look at the cut ends of any canes and see if there is a well bored hole.. if so you need to take action, cut off the dead areas and use pruning sealant on all cuts... those little flies are NASTY to say the least......
I hope that helps some.
Reply:Why are you watering it every day? I live in a very hot area (and a lot more than six hours of direct sun a day) and I water mine twice a week max and they're just fine. I can understand you being nervous because it's new but I'd cut way back on the water. How hot can Utah be this time of year?
Reply:I've lost a couple rose bushes because of bad drainage--soil had too much clay. When it rains do you see puddles ? If so this might be your problem--too much water makes the roots rot.
I've had good success with digging a really, really big hole before planting the rose, (more than twice the size of the pot--put a little peat moss in the bottom for drainage, and then fill the whole with a mixture of peat moss and top soil.
Also--do your leaves have little holes in them? Might be bugs eating them. Try using some Bayer advantage--I use one capful per rose bush per 4-5 weeks. Feeds and keeps bugs away.
Good Luck
Good luck
