my rose moss is in a big pot and i don't know how to take care of it this winter.
I live in illinois and have a rose moss plant and want to know how to take care of it in winter?
Moss Rose (Portulaca) is an annual in your climate. It will not survive the winter outside in Illinois. Moss rose does reseed freely and you might have 'volunteers' start up in the pot or surrounding areas. They may not be the same color as the parent plants however.
If you loved the moss rose, pick up some new plants in the spring, or try some seed from your local independent garden center.
I hope that this helps
Good luck-
Reply:I wouldn't expect to have much luck. Portulacas require a lot of sun. Also, unless you're home during the day, and the sun is shining, the flowers won't open.
Reply:Best way is to save its seeds and replant next spring. This is an annual plant.
Reply:A heated greenhouse is your best bet. I live in South Texas and
they always bail out on me during the winter. But, why bother -
buy some new fresh ones in the spring at your local nursery.
