What is the best color to paint the walls if you want to downplay rose-colored carpeting?

We can't afford new carpeting right now, but paint is cheap! Also, if you want to go a step further, what color curtains?

Reply:I would go with a complementary color scheme Since you have rose colored carpet I would get a lighter shade of green paint.
Reply:For the walls, something equal strength, but neutral, such as camel or a cocoa brown. (Paint the ceiling either the same as the wall color or cut the wall color in half with white.) Or you can use something gutsy like a cobalt or navy blue. Strong, clear yellows will also work.

Soft or pale colors will look washed out next to the carpet, so again, to tone down the rose, you need something of equal value or intensity.

For the curtains, something in a much lighter neutral, such as cream, will work with these schemes and the next when you change the carpeting and presumbably the wall color again.

Avoid using any shade or tint of green on the walls. Colors opposite each other on the color wheel accentuate one another when used side by side. Therefore, your rose carpet would look more intense.
Reply:i would suggest a lighter or bolder shade of your carpet. it would emphasize the color. and you can have accent pillows with shades of green and red.
Reply:stay in the beige zone. and don't add any pink to the room at all.
Reply:i would go with white or like a tan color. or they have like paint glitter you can mix in with the paint and a white wall with like grey glitter would look nice or better yet you could see if they have like a rose color but dont make it too glittery with that rose color.

Reply:My mother had pink carpet and we painted her walls a light grayish taupe and painted the trim white. It looked great.
Reply:Bad paint is cheap,so are bad curtains. But for the money it would take for enough paint to do a room with two coats,and buy curtains for however many windows, you could afford to go to Wal-mart and get a room size area rug with a ruberized nonskid back in a bold modern abstract pattern with multi colors with maybe a little rose or burgundy in it. It's strong abstracts will detract your vision from the rose color surrounding it. take another bold color or black if in it,and get a few pillows in those colors to toss on the furniture to bring your eyes from the area rug to the furniture,and then go to your local thrift store and buy several cheap wooden picture frames of different shapes and sizes , buy some small tubes of acrylic craft paint in the rug colors and paint each frame a different color and hang the empty frames in an abstract grouping on two different walls. Your eyes are now drawn up to the wall, so now the rose carpet is the last thing on anyones mind. And you've gotten a ready made theme.
Reply:The lightest color on the wall. Maybe a tan or something. NO WHITE! Just for the sake of getting spots EVERYWHERE on your brand new carpet.
