My 2-year old rose plants have almost no leaves after the first blooming. Any ideas?

Where do you live ??? Its not just going into dormancy ???? (autumn Winter time)

They are most likely dead. I would dig them up, sterilize or replace the soil and start over.

The new hole should be no less than 24" in diameter and probably as deep. Be sure to plant the new bushes above the root graft.
Reply:there dead
Reply:if they aren't dead try Rose Tone or a systemic Rose plant food or fertilizer. It might also have a disease or just be plain old dead. If your in the Massachusetts area you may try New England Nursery or Mahoney's Garden Center and have someone take a look at your rose (that would mean breaking off branches or bringing the whole bush with you)
Reply:If you are going into Autumn/winter they will loose most of their leaves if it is cold enough.

If it is summer/spring have they had enough water they like a good drink (deep) at least once a week in the hot months, and they will quickly defoliate if they get too dry.

Roses love food, and water. Don't spray the leaves while watering this will encourage black spot that can also make them loose leaves. Water on the root area (drip if possible).

They are only young so they haven't got massive roots yet so I'm tipping lack of moisture. They are related to Blackberries so they are hard to kill once established. I don't think they would be dead. Are the stems green but no leaves, if this is case they will quickly regrow their leaves if water is the problem.
